Sunday 13th July saw a host of GFKC students and parents take part in a charity triathlon to raise vital funds for the British heart foundation. The day started off at Grimsby swimming pool at 10am for the first leg of the triathlon which was a 1 mile swim (64 lengths). Everyone was in high spirits with lots of smiles as the organiser, Lizzie Summers went through the plan of the day with everyone and officially started the annual triathlon! A big thank you to those volunteers on this part of the triathlon as they made sure no one rode off on everyone’s bike whilst swimming!
Two lanes were booked out by the Grimsby swimming pool in aid of the charity and the staff there were very helpful as always! The swim took just over an hour for everyone to finish and the team spirit was very high as everyone gave an applause as each triathlete finished the swim. After a group picture was taken it was a quick dry off and hop onto the bikes for the next leg.
Through Scartho village and past Toll bar school then onto New Waltham and Humberstone was the journey on the bikes that would eventually finish with a ride along Kings road, to the Cleethorpes leisure centre and a well earned drink break after the 9 kmiles. A big thank you also goes to Ben Collins on this part of the triathlon as he brought his van to load all the bikes onto and take them to the finish point at the Rose and Crown in Scartho.
Once re-hydrated it was onto the run all the way to the finish line and a well earned shandy or two! A big red heart was also on the run with all the triathletes donated by the British heart foundation to raise the profile and to get some extra donations on the way through the packed streets of Cleethorpes sea front! 5.5 miles later and a lot of sweaty people were running to the finish line where there was a host of supporters all clapping and cheering for everyone! A group picture and a big cheer was the final step on this amazing day to end another fantastic charity event for the GFKC and the British heart foundation
As soon as all the donations are counted and handed in we will announce the total for you all! A big huge thank you to everyone who completed any part of the event including all the helpers and volunteers who without your support we cannot organise these great days out!
ou were all amazing and you have helped to change peoples lives which makes you all angels!
