On Sunday 17th November three fighters from the Grimsby strike team headed over to Bolton to compete at the Warriors open tournament and came home with some impressive trophies!
Jessica Ward fought in the under 16’s point fighting category and battled her way through a close preliminary match and won the fight in the last second! Jess has been training very hard over the months and it showed on the mats at the competition when she used her drills to full effect. Jess then went onto the final where she won the match very comfortably at 12 – 2 and came home with the 1st place trophy!
Daniel Balch fought in the under 16’s point fighting and Light continuous categories so a full day for the young fighter. Daniel used his head kicks and sweep techniques very effectively in his light continuous categories to beat the opposition and take home the 1st place trophy! Daniel also fought very well In his point fighting category winning his first fight easily at 7 – 4 although came up against another technical fighter from Liverpool in the final where he just missed out on one point in the final second making the final score 5 – 4 coming away with the 2nd place medal.
Evan Balch fought in the under 16’s point fighting and light continuous categories also. Evan fought well and battled against some strong and aggressive opponents. Evan used the area well and executed some very clean and tidy combinations. Unfortunately Evan didn’t come away with any trophies although he came away with vital experience and a few things to work hard on in the gym ready for next time which is crucial!
